Safety, liability and behaviour disclosure

For the safety of the staff and your pet, Paws Pitstop requires that you disclose when booking if your pet has any history of, or currently has, any difficult or aggressive behaviour. Handling and managing dogs with aggression may also incur additional fees. We must ensure staff and pets are protected against injury.

No liability will be accepted by Paws Pitstop for any injury caused by the difficult or aggressive behaviour of your pet.

No liability will be accepted by Paws Pitstop if any health problem is uncovered or aggravated by any part of the grooming process. We will endeavour to notify you of anything we discover during the groom.

Additional fees

Additional fees may be charged for the following — your groomer will flag the cost before starting any chargeable work where practical:

  • Knot or matted coat removal. This is a time-consuming process requiring expertise so as not to injure the animal; it also dulls equipment.
  • Flea baths.
  • Aggressive or difficult-to-handle dogs — see the safety section above.
  • Re-wash fees where a dog defecates or urinates during the appointment because they weren't given the chance beforehand. Please make sure all dogs are well walked and given ample opportunity to toilet before coming to their grooming appointment.

We do not express anal glands.

Matting policy

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (and the equivalent Animal Welfare (Jersey) Law 2004 for our home salon), it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal. This includes prolonged de-matting, which is painful and detrimental to the welfare of the dog.

When a groomer has assessed your dog’s coat and found it to be matted, they will make the decision for it to be clipped short. This can be prevented by daily brushing and regular maintenance — your groomer will be happy to explain the correct way to brush your dog and suggest a grooming programme that will allow us to achieve the look you would like.

Clipping a matted coat can take longer and cause additional wear and tear on our equipment, so a further fee may be chargeable in addition to the normal groom price.

Record keeping and disclaimers

All clients must use the portal (or fill out, sign and date a record card) and agree to the disclaimer.

We reserve the right to take and use pictures of your pet for social media, advertising and education. If you do not wish pictures of your pet to be used for these purposes, you must notify us at the time of your appointment.
